Electrolysis

The guaranteed solution for unwanted hair in a private, comfortable and relaxing atmosphere

Electrology is the science of permanent hair removal. It is achieved by gently inserting a fine sterile probe into the hair follicle, an opening in the skin that is already there. At this time a small measured amount of electrical energy is discharged via the probe into the follicle to destroy the source of growth. When this is competently and skillfully accomplished, the regenerative ability of the hair follicle is permanently eliminated.

FAQs

What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is the only method approved by the FDA for permanent hair removal, regardless of the cause - heredity, metabolic, or hormonal conditions.

A small electric current is transmitted by a fine, sterile probe directly into the natural opening of the hair follicle, destroying the dermal papilla, matrix. The modality is the method chosen by the electrologist. There are 3 modalities in current use and all are effective:

  1. Galvanic is a chemical process. The current produces a chemical reaction in the hair follicle eliminating the hair growth cells.

  2. Thermolysis produces heat. This modality heats and destroys the hair cells in the follicle.

  3. Blend method combines galvanic and thermolysis current.

How many treatments should I expect?

Depending on the area you want cleared. Most people who follow a recommended treatment plan can expect to be completed or nearly completed from within 18 months to several years. Factors such as hair growth cycles, the quantity and structure of the hair presented, precious use of temporary hair removal methods, heredity, hormone function, certain medications and stress influence the treatment program for each individual.

What does it feel like?/Is it painful?

The level of pain or discomfort people experience differs. Factors include the individual's overall sensitivity of the area being treated, and the amount of hair growing in that area. Generally, any discomfort that is felt during the procedure fades quickly. The area can be treated with numbing cream prior to the procedure, which can make a substantial difference.

What should I expect after treatment?

The degree to which reactions occur differs greatly among individual patients. All people are different in the way they heal.

  • Redness and swelling
Redness and swelling are caused by blood vessels in the skin expanding to increase blood flow. This helps the body repair damage and remove waste material. This reaction will last a few hours at most.

  • Tiny scab formation
These tiny scabs should be viewed as the action of healthy skin repairing itself as quickly as possible.

What is the cost?

Electrolysis costs depend on a lot of factors, including how much hair needs to be removed and the size of the area being treated. Call Dawn for more information.
